Compost Site Rules - Friday, August 30, 2019

There have been several issues recently with illegal dumping of materials at the City Compost Site. Please remember the following rules:

1. Only leaves, grass and brush are allowed to be left at the site. Garbage, building materials, and household items are prohibited.

2. The Compost Site is for the use of City of Olivet residents only. Dumping by commercial businesses or non-Olivet residents is not allowed.

Continued misuse of the Compost Site may result in reduced hours of operation or the ending of the program all together. If you have questions about the use of the Compost Site please contact City Hall at (269) 749-4961 or DPW Director Jerry Staggs at (269) 339-8219.

Dog Licenses

2019 Dog License Renewal
Any dog four months or older needs a new or renewed license.  For non-spayed or neutered dogs the fee is $15. For spayed and neutered dogs the fee is $10.  Pet owners can renew or get new licenses from the convenience of their homes by going to the county treasurer’s dog license website.

New for 2019, dog licenses are also available from the Eaton County Humane Society in Olivet, Snow Animal Health Care in Eaton Rapids, Town and Country Animal Hospital in Charlotte, and Charlotte Veterinary Hospital in Charlotte.

Although a license is still required, there is no fee for leader dogs or dogs in service training.  While one can’t transfer a license to another dog, if a dog’s owner changes, the license will transfer with the dog to its new owner.

Purchase your license at:
- The treasurer’s online dog license website.
- At the county treasurer’s office in Charlotte 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- At the Eaton County Animal Control at 756 Courthouse Drive in Charlotte from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily
- At your local township, city, or village office until March 1.

All revenue from dog licenses goes to support Eaton County Animal Control.  Licensing protects public health and welfare, and helps assure the safety of your pet.

Important Summer Information
Lawn Clippings - Wednesday, June 19, 2019

Help us keep Olivet clean by making sure your lawn clippings are not being blown into the street when mowing. This is a violation of the City Code as well as a safety hazard. Grass clippings left in the street can lead to plugged drains and flooded streets.

Burn Permits - Monday, April 1, 2019

Remember that the City of Olivet requires residents to obtain a Burn Permit prior to doing any outside burning. Call the Burn Permit Line at (269) 280-5017 or City Hall at (269) 749-4961 to request a 3-day or 6-day permit. If calling after hours, please leave a message with your name, address where the burn will take place, a contact phone number, type of material being burned, and the number of days you would like the permit for.

Thank you for your cooperation.
